Written Grievances

Written grievances should NEVER be more than three sentences.

1. What happened. (who, what, where, when)
2. What this violates. (contract, policies, a law)
3. The remedy. (make this as broad as possible in case you to go to arbitration--you can always negotiate for a lesser remedy)

Examples:

On January 1, 2018, Managment suspended Pat Brown. This violates Article 10 "Discipline and Discharge," and all other relevant sections of the contract. Remedy sought: Removal of suspension and Pat Brown be made whole for all of their losses.

On or about February 15, 2018, Management stated that all nurses on the Med/Surg unit were required to complete a mandatory online training on their own time. This violates Article 15 "Training," Article 30 "Wages" the Fair Labor Standards Act and all other relevant sections of the contract. Remedy sought: All nurses paid for their time completing the training.
